Mr. Jacobs has an affinity for hole # 15 at Simi Hills Golf Course. This became evident when, on Thu. January 10, 2008 he improved on a hole-in-one he had achieved the previous time he played the hole. How? Simple, this time he hit a "prettier" shot. Jim's back-to-back "Aces" certainly earns a FIRST in DPTGG History and possibly a place at Guinness. Mr. Jacobs earned a Masters Degree & studied for his PHD at USC Cinema Dept. in the late '50s. During this time he also appeared as an actor in various films & TV , becoming a series regular on CBS's "Men Into Space", '59-'60. In 1962 he segued into Production, serving as a Producer's Asst. (MGM-TV), then Assoc. Prodr. (Brendan Prods/20th Fox TV), VP for Prodn(VPI Comm'l Studio), Prodr/Head of Prodn (Metromedia Producers Corp, Comm'l Div.), & finally Exec. Prodr/Owner of CaliFilmery Prodns. From his High School golf team days in Bloomington, Ill. thru Varsity Golf at Univ. of Notre Dame, he won several junior titles & local Country Club championships, played in the 1951 NCAA Tourn. & two PGA events. During a U.S. Air Force tour he added more victories in service events & then, in Hollywood , he won Low Gross at the 1962 World Entertainment Golf Championship.
In 1963 he was one the original founders of the Hollywood Hackers, serving on their Exec. Board & as Hdcp & Scoring Chmn, along with winning their Club Championship multiple times. With DPTGG, Jim has garnered many annual awards including the Don Porter Award for "Golfer of the Year" in 2000. He currently serves as a member of "The Commitee", also as Group Treasurer, Handicap Chairman, & columnist on the Newsletter Staff. From 1997 until 2005 and 2007 to present he's our Weekly Tournament Director.
